Roopnath Dham, Bahoriband

I happened to visit Roopnath Dham on 24th Oct. 2014 when I went to my hometown, Katni on the occasion of Deepawali. Prior to visiting this place I had read about this temple in madhyapradeshtourism.com, since then I was excited to visit this place.

I had planned to visit Kankali Devi Mandir and Roopnath Dham in one go in Bahoriband. Both of these sites are protected by M. P. Tourism. People in the town are well aware of these places hence locating them is very easy after you have reached Bahoriband.

From the town I was diverted towards Sindursi village through twisting and turning ghat road. The beautiful low height continuous camore hills ran all along the road to Roopnath Dham. There is a small Hanuman Mandir on the way on the hill top but I did not stop there as I did not have that much time.

At the end of the Camore hills I saw a big board of M. P. Tourism suggesting other attractions nearby. And I had reached the gate of nicely fenced Roopnath Dham. Of the three story temple the ground floor is dedicated to Lord Shiva-Parvati, the first floor to the Lord Ram-Janaki and the second floor to the Lord Krishna-Radha.

Adjacent to the temple are three kunds which are naturaly made on a big rock. These kunds namely Ram kund, Sita kund and Lakshman kund always have clean water flowing through them. There is a huge huge reservior above the hill which is deemed the source of water for these kunds. The outfall of all the kunds has been converted into a big pool but bathing / swimming is prohibited there. Still this place is a great fun for children and they enjoy it a lot.

There is a 232 B.C. Ashokan verse painted on a big stone which is an order written in Pali language to follow Buddhism. It being a MPT protected site it is maintained very clean and green. Away from the crowd of town this would be the great picnic spot in Katni / Bahoriband.

While returning do not forget to visit the huge Bahoriband Reservoir. A Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak on the left side leads to the viewpoint of the reservoir. Overall road condition to the Roopnath is good. Roopnath Dham is 5 kms from Bahoriband Town and 40 kms from the Katni Distt.

Other places in Bahoriband:
  1. Jogini ka Sthan near Roopnath Dham in Sindursi village.
  2. Bahoriband Reservoir, 3 kms from Bahoriband.
  3. Kankali Devi Mandir, 4 kms from Bahoriband on the opposite side of Roopnath Dham.
  4. Vishnu Varah Mandir, Bilhary
  5. Kamakandla Fort, Bilhary
Kankali Devi Mandir and Sharda Devi Mandir at Tigma (or Tigwan) in Bahoriband is also an M. P. Trousim protected site and is a must visit place.
